Halsey McKay Gallery is pleased to present Deep Color-a group exhibition organized by gallery artist Joseph Hart. The exhibit will include drawing, painting, sculpture, writing, editioned prints, and photography by over sixty different artists-all of which have been featured on Hart's oral history project and audio podcast, also called Deep Color.

Founded in 2016 by Hart as a social, educational, and new media extension of his studio practice, Deep Color features long-form conversations with artists and arts professionals as they discuss their work, ideas, and lives. Each episode offers listeners a forthright and unique understanding about the process, experiences, and people behind the artistic pursuit. Episodes are archived and published on all major streaming platforms-drawing a robust international audience of artists, students, educators, collectors, and arts enthusiasts. This exhibit celebrates the project's community of contributors and listeners by extending Deep Color's exploration of artistic dialogue and reflection into the physical space of the gallery.

Hart states: "One of the things I'm noticing as I coordinate this exhibit is how divergent and individualized this group of artists' process and works are, but also how similar in important ways. Materials, concepts, and aesthetics really zig and zag from artist to artist. Yet the impulse to make and craft something, to communicate and express an idea or feeling-it's all rhyming. It's all familiar. There is also conviction across the board. These artists are serious and committed to living a life in and through art. This humanity and sense of aliveness and curiosity, and the impulse to share ideas through artistic expression is the connective tissue that binds this exhibition together, and Deep Color as a project, overall.

I'm incredibly appreciative of these artists for recording conversations with me for Deep Color and for being part of this exhibition. They've let us behind the curtain and into their studios. They've told us stories about the formative experiences that helped shape their artwork and outlook. They've offered us guidance, and different models, for how to approach and think about being an artist. Through these acts of generosity, and through their artwork, these artists are contributing to culture in a way that can fuel imagination, provide light, and soften the complicated aspects of our daily lives. This is a profound gesture that we should all salute and support."
