Rachel Uffner Gallery is pleased to present Theorem X, the first iteration of a two-part exhibition curated by Rebekah Chozick (Director, Rachel Uffner Gallery) and Sara Maria Salamone (Co-Founder | Director, Mrs.) ‘Theorem’ is defined as a general proposition; not self-evident, but proved by a chain of reasoning, or a truth established by means of accepted truths. A proposition in itself, the exhibition brings together a group of artists and collectives who address themes of hybridity and transformation, relationships between the natural, industrial and supernatural, or scientific systems and mythologies in their work. Some have research-based or collaborative processes while others invent their own formulas or rules, which often mirror mathematical or scientific structures. While each artist’s practice varies greatly, there is a unifying interest in psychology, surrealism, material experimentation, and navigating alongside the unknown. The resulting artworks demonstrate individual chains of reasoning, and provide support towards establishing each artist’s relative truths and/or unique realities. Theorem Y will run concurrently at Mrs. in Maspeth, New York from July 15 - August 13, 2021.
